LARAMIE, Wyo. (2/27/24) – The University of Wyoming men’s swimming and diving team is slated to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The four-day meet commences Wednesday in Pharr, Texas, inside Pharr-PSJA-URGV Natatorium.

Wyoming’s swim program endured a tragic loss last week when three swimmers passed away in a car accident. Understandably, some of the eligible swimmers have opted not to compete in the WAC Championships.

The meet is being broadcast on ESPN-Plus. Live results will also be available.

UNLV – which is aiming to repeat for a fourth straight time as champion – was picked first in the Pre-Championship Poll. Grand Canyon checked in at No. 2, and Wyoming was selected third.

The Cowboys finished fourth at last year’s championships with plenty of notable finishes. A total of 15 Wyoming student-athletes earned All-WAC honors in 2023.

Quinn Cynor highlighted the meet with a conference title in the 200-yard butterfly. Gavin Smith also made headlines, breaking the school record in the 100-yard butterfly, while the 200-yard medley relay team also set a new school record.

Wyoming completed the 2023-24 regular season with a 3-5 record that included a 1-1 mark in conference duals. Cynor – who qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials before the season even started – led the squad with 11 individual victories.

As mentioned, the Rebels won the team title in 2023. The Antelopes finished second and Cal Baptist rounded out the top three. The Pokes were fourth.

Wednesday’s action begins at 9:30 a.m. with 1-meter preliminaries. Each day will follow the same format with preliminary events in the morning followed by finals in the evening.
