LARAMIE – The University of Wyoming men’s swimming and diving team is back in action for a dual meet against Utah a 2 p.m., on Friday at the Green River High School Aquatic Center.

The Cowboys have not faced the Utes in Green River in more than seven years, so no current swimmer has experienced this type of meet. The two teams last competed in Dec. 2016 when the Pokes took six of the 16 events, ultimately losing to Utah, 171-129.

“The men haven’t done this before,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “That’s because the team hasn’t had an outreach meet since 2016. The team is looking forward to swimming in Green River because when the team has done it in the past it has been a great turnout by the town, and there has been a lot of enthusiasm.”

Wyoming enters this meet with a 3-2 overall record and a 1-0 start in Western Athletic Conference play. The Cowboys ares coming off its first loss of the year last weekend when the Pokes fell to Denver and BYU in a tri-meet inside University of Denver’s El Pomar Natatorium. The Cowboys, however, had some strong individual swimmers at the meet.

Going into last week’s tri-meet, Quinn Cynor and Charlie Clark each had seven wins to their names, and each added a good bit of hardware to that count. Cynor touched first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and helped the 200-yard medley, the 400-yard medley, and the 200-yard medley teams top the field. Clark also had an impressive meet, claiming first in the 400-yard individual medley as well, and winning both the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles.

The Utes enter this week’s match-up coming off a home win against Colorado Mesa University, 201-97.

Utah has an overall record of 5-2 and a Pac-12 record of 0-2, dropping contests to Arizona and Arizona State.

The Cowboys head to Las Vegas for a two-day meet next weekend where the Pokes battle UNLV.
