Cowboys Open Spring Golf Season In Arizona N.I.T Monday and Tuesday

The 2024 spring golf season for the Wyoming Cowboys will tee off on Monday when the Cowboys travel to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Arizona N.I.T.

  

Wyoming will compete in a prestigious national field of 18 teams in one of the best tournaments in college golf.  The tournament, hosted by the University of Arizona, will be played on the OMNI Tucson National Catalina Golf Course.

 

In the 2023 fall season, Wyoming’s best finishes in five fall events included a second-place showing at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, a fifth-place finish at the Ram Masters Invitational and an eighth-place showing at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.

  

The Cowboys are coming off a fall season that saw six different Cowboys combine for a total of 10 Top 25 individual finishes led by Patrick Azevedo with three Top 25 showings, and Jaren Calkins and Kristof Panke, who each recorded two Top 25 finishes during the fall.

The 2024 Arizona N.I.T. will feature 18 teams, including: host Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Fresno State, Iowa State, Louisiana-Monroe, Missouri, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Diego, Santa Clara, SMU, St. Mary’s, Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Wyoming.

 

Top Teams

  

This season a new “College Golf Ranking System” sanctioned by the NCAA has been established.  In the most recent men’s golf team rankings released on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, there are seven teams ranked in the Top 50 teams which will be competing in this year’s Arizona N.I.T.  Those seven teams are:  No. 6 Arizona State, No. 16 Arizona, No. 25 Texas A&M, No. 28 New Mexico, No. 35 Missouri, No. 36 SMU and No. 49 TCU.

  

Six other teams in this year’s Arizona N.I.T. are ranked among the Top 100 teams out of 306 total NCAA Division I teams.  Those additional six teams ranked in the Top 100 are: No. 51 Fresno State, No. 52 BYU, No. 59 Stanford, No. 69 Iowa State, No. 84 St. Mary’s and No. 94 West Virginia.  Wyoming is currently ranked No. 150.
