Cowgirls Tennis Faces Pair Of Challenging Road Matchups

LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 26, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team returns to the road this week for a pair of Mountain West matches against another couple of teams that are 2-1 in league action. The Cowgirls will face San Diego State at 3 p.m., Mountain Time Thursday afternoon before facing UNLV at 11 a.m., Mountain Saturday.

 

Wyoming (11-7, 2-1 MW) is coming off a pair of impressive victories last week in Laramie. The Cowgirls disposed of Boise State 4-1 to begin the weekend before blanking Utah State, 4-0 Sunday morning. Violetta Borodina and Sophie Zehender went 2-0 together as a doubles team last week and each also went 2-0 in singles play against Boise and USU. Noesjka Brink went 1-0 on the week and was leading in her match against Utah State before the Cowgirls clinched the team victory.

 

With her two wins last week, Borodina joins Brink and Zehender with double-digit wins in 2024. Brink and Zehender lead the Cowgirls with 12 singles victories each this season while Borodina now has 10 wins. In doubles play, Borodina and Zehender are now 14-2 in dual play to lead Wyoming. As a team, the Cowgirls are 32-13 in doubles matches in 2024 and has won the doubles point in 13 matches.

 

San Diego State and UNLV have been formidable at home this season. The Aztecs enter play this week with a 4-1 mark at home in 2024 while UNLV is 8-2 in Las Vegas. SDSU is 8-5 overall on the year while the Lady Rebels are 9-5.
