LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 20, 2024) – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will host their first Mountain West matches of the season this weekend. The Cowgirls welcome Boise State to town Friday for a 3 p.m., match before closing the weekend with a 10 a.m., contest Sunday against Utah State.

Wyoming (9-7, 0-1 MW) is coming off a 4-3 loss last week at Nevada to open league action. The Cowgirls won the doubles point against the Wolf Pack but won just a pair of singles matches as Nevada rallied to take the win.

Sophie Zehender and Noesjka Brink got the two singles wins for the Cowgirls against Nevada at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Zehender won in three sets, 6-2, 3-6 and 6-2. Brink, meanwhile, won in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-4. With her win, Zehender joins Brink this season with double-digit dual victories. Zehender now has a 10-5 record in duals while Brink improved to 11-3.

In doubles, the team of Violetta Borodina and Zehender continued their torrid pace in 2024, winning their 12th match together this dual season. Jeselle Ante and Lucia Malinak also won in Reno last week in doubles play.

Boise State enters Friday on a four-match winning streak and is 2-0 in MW play, having won at home against San Jose State and San Diego State. The Broncos are 0-3 overall in matches away from home this season. Utah State is 3-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play. All three of the Aggies’ wins this season have come on the road, or in neutral matches.
